We were informed one day during a game that a fellow gamer had passed away on the island
(Vancouver, Island, British Columbia, Canada). We did not know the deceased
personally, but felt like we had lost a brother gamer (a miniatures gamer for over 30 years). We were then informed
that the his wife was planning to auction off all her husband's wargaming stuff. The
gamers in our gaming room started imagining all the stuff the late wargamer
had -- it reminded us of the old newspaper illustrations from just after the first Boer
War of 1879-80, when the surviving British soldiers are depicted bidding
on the belongings of their dead comrades (a custom in the British army
of the time).
